I’m just a guy who’s addicted to music and is constantly looking for a new high. Music is how I cope with the world. It’s how I connect with myself. It’s how I connect with others. Through music I learn about the experiences of those unlike me, and those that came before me. Through music I learn the building blocks of my culture. I don’t exactly know what this blog will be, yet. But I’m hoping we can find out together.
If you’ve seen my posts on Threads, you have a pretty good idea of what I listen to: Rock, Pop, Folk, Country, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Blues, and all the places that they intersect. I’d like to talk about my relationship to various artists and go more in depth on my thoughts as I discover music. My #MusicalJourney posts on Threads don’t allow for comments on what my experience with that record was on that listen. Sometimes there’s not an experience, at all, and I just get through the thing. But for the occasions when I am affected by something I’d like the ability to put thoughts down on it.
I’ll get into my musical biography and listening philosophy. You’ll be able to trace my life through the music that dominates my memories. As I explore music both new and old I’d also like to dig into the artists, themselves. Find out more about who they are and where they’re coming from, both literally and musically.
I have NO musical training. I won’t get into the technicalities of what I’m hearing because A) I can’t, and B) that’s just not my interest. It’s all about the feels to me. I’m just a guy who loves to listen and who used to play guitar in his bedroom. I’m also a guy who was once fired by Matchbox 20, but that’s a story for a whole blog post.
I think that’s enough of an introduction for now. I look forward to sharing my musical journey with you. Take care, be kind, listen to good music, and make it a good day.
